Crisis Management

We understand the impact a criminal investigation can have, not just for an individual but for their family, their reputation their financial stability and their business affairs. We recognise that your brand may well be your business.

Potential Reputation Damage

The publicity and sometimes unwanted media interest that surrounds an investigation can do huge damage. Often, it is the first few days and even hours that are crucial. At Olliers we are experienced not only in dealing with the police or other authorities during the early stages of an investigation but also the media. As well as dealing with clients we work with their agents, managers or other representatives working together to ensure a swift, sure-footed response to any situation. We offer access to public relations and social media specialists to ensure a fully co-ordinated approach.

We ensure that the impact of an investigation is kept to a minimum whilst pursuing the overriding objective of avoiding a prosecution or conviction.

Our clients include company directors, entrepreneurs, sportsmen and women, politicians at local and national level, celebrities, musicians, professionals, businesses and high net-worth individuals.

We are used not only in dealing with the police and the media but also professional bodies and regulators.

Crisis Management Team

Our team is led by our Managing Director Matthew Claughton. Matthew has extensive experience of dealing with the media in relation to high profile and often sensitive matters. Matthew’s first press conference was over 20 years ago and he regularly deals with media contact in relation to clients.

Team members include Director Ruth Peters and Laura Baumanis both of whom have many years’ experience of dealing with sensitive and often high profile investigations and prosecutions.

As Matthew points out:

“At Olliers we combine sensitive handling of often delicate matters with a pro-active, front footed approach. Dealing with the criminal investigation is only part of our role. We never lose sight of the wider picture, and are acutely aware of the need to avoid reputational damage an investigation can cause.”

Crisis Management Experience

Our Managing Director Matthew Claughton has extensive experience of dealing with the media in relation to high profile and often sensitive matters. Matthew’s first press conference was almost 20 years ago when he addressed the media on behalf of his client John Cannan, named by the police as the only suspect in relation to the 1980’s disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh. He has appeared on local and national television on a number of occasions for example in relation to the double Court of Appeal success of Martin Foran and the acquittal of Chetham’s music teacher Malcolm Layfield.
