MARTIN FORAN GETS APPEAL DATE

Written 24th September 2014 by Olliers Solicitors

Martin Foran’s appeal to quash his 1977 conviction for robbery has been listed for a full hearing at the Court of Appeal on 3rd October 2014 after a referral from the Criminal Case Review Commission (CCRC).

The Commission’s referral is based upon evidence relating to the credibility of officers of the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad who were involved in the case against Mr Foran. The Squad, disbanded in 1989, was notorious for the way it operated; physically abusing prisoners, fabricating admissions, planting evidence and mishandling informants.

Martin’s 1985 conviction for robbery was quashed in April 2013. This, again, was a referral by the CCRC and, again was based upon evidence relating to the West Midlands Crime Squad.

Martin has fought for justice, continually, for 38 years and has produced a book about his experiences which is available at www.shieldcrest.co.uk/martinforan.html

Martin Foran is represented by Tracy Gibbon of Olliers Solicitors.
